Welcome to the City of Markham's Overnight Parking System
In the City of Markham, overnight parking options are available to eligible residents and visitors through either a Daily Overnight Parking Exemption and/ or Monthly Overnight Parking Permit (approved permit parking zones only)

Daily Overnight Parking Exemptions
Residents and visitors who require temporary overnight parking may register for a Daily Overnight Parking Exemption online.
A daily exemption allows a vehicle to remain parked on a City street overnight between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m, subject to all applicable terms and conditions.
Important Information
Effective October 1, 2026, a processing fee will apply to all Daily Overnight Parking Exemption requests.
Each licence plate is eligible for a maximum of 10 overnight parking exemption requests per calendar year.
Daily exemptions are intended for temporary overnight parking needs and must be obtained prior to the overnight parking period.
Approval of an exemption does not exempt a vehicle from any other parking restrictions.
The City reserves the right to deny or revoke an exemption where eligibility requirements or conditions have not been met.
The Daily Overnight Exemption does not permit vehicles to be parked at the same location in excess of forty-eight (48) continuous hours. If found in violation, the vehicle can be ticketed and/or towed.
Overnight parking exemptions for Commercial Motor Vehicles will not be granted even if the system accepts the information. Commercial Motor Vehicle include but are not limited to the following; trailers, recreational vehicles, tow trucks, cube vans, buses, school buses, dump trucks, boats, snowmobiles, mobile homes, etc.
Exemptions are only for plated vehicles. The City of Markham does not approve on street parking on private property.

Monthly Overnight Parking Permits
This system allows Markham residents in approved permit parking zones to purchase monthly overnight parking permits online. Monthly overnight permit applications may be denied if there are outstanding parking penalties owed to the City of Markham.
Before proceeding, please carefully review and ensure that you understand and agree to all permit and exemption guidelines. Failure to comply with the applicable conditions may result in the issuance of a penalty notice.
Proof of residency (driver's licence, utility bill, etc.) and vehicle ownership (vehicle registration) are required for new monthly permit applications. Monthly permits may be purchased one month in advance for a period of up to three months. Each permit is purchased for a specific calendar month and expires on the last day of that month.
Vehicles must be parked on their own street and only in areas where overnight permit parking is authorized under City Parking By-law 2005-188, where applicable.
Permits will only be issued to operating and licenced vehicles. Monthly overnight parking permits for Commercial Motor Vehicles will not be granted even if the system accepts the plate upon entry. Commercial Motor Vehicles include but are not limited to the following: trailers, recreational vehicles, tow trucks, cube vans, buses, school buses, dump trucks, boats, snowmobiles, mobile homes etc.
The monthly overnight parking permit does not permit vehicles to be parked at the same location within an area designated as monthly overnight permit parking in excess of twenty-four (24) continuous hours. If found in violation, the vehicle can be ticketed and/or towed.
Please note that monthly overnight parking permits are not valid until approved by a Parking Administrator. You will receive an email confirmation from noreply@markham.caif your Monthly Parking Permit has been approved.
Monthly parking permits are non-refundable. Please ensure you purchase only the monthly parking permits that you require.

Guidelines for All Overnight Parking Permits
Permits and exemptions are only valid for the licence plate number for which they were issued and allow a vehicle to park overnight between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Having a permit or exemption does not exempt a vehicle from any other parking violations.
All on street parking is prohibited during snow clearing operations/winter maintenance. Therefore, existing monthly overnight parking permits held by residents are not valid during snow clearing/winter maintenance. Vehicles parking on a City street during snow clearing/winter operations will be ticketed and/or towed. The fine for interfering with snow removal or winter maintenance is $150. Residents can expect snow clearing/winter maintenance to begin at the start of any snowfall and continue for up to the next 24 hours. Winter maintenance means all winter service operations including and not limited to salting and sanding.
Please note, it may be necessary to remove vehicles off the streets when tree pruning is required, or when street repairs such as paving and curb work are being completed.
Possession of Daily Overnight Exemption or Monthly Overnight Permit does not guarantee parking availability.
The City reserves the right to revoke permits or exemptions at its sole discretion.
